On Saturday, October 26, 2019, the Clearwater Cross Country team headed to the regional cross country meet in Buhler. The girl’s team had seven girls running at regionals. The boy’s team had seven boys running and three alternates.
Hayley Trotter (9) said, “The night before I would just eat the same kinds of foods, stretch, and get my mind right. I also listen to music to help hype me up.” Ava Hanes (10) explained, “I was trying to focus on getting out quickly. I knew that the first mile was going to fly which meant that if I didn’t get out fast I would have to make up for it later in the race.” The runners as a team got fourth place. Trotter qualified for state and earned fourth at regionals. Abbey Freeman (9) qualified for state and earned sixteenth place at regionals. Freeman explained, “I was very overwhelmed and very concerned. I was proud that I made it as a freshman.” Hanes also qualified for state and earned twenty-second at regionals. Hanes exclaimed,” I was really excited and glad that all of the hard work paid off. Regionals was definitely my best race.” Emma Willis (11), Ellie Bock (10), Laura Wellauer (11), and Audrie Garrison (10) contributed to the team get fourth. The three girls will compete at state on November 2, 2019.
Cole Bixler-Large (12) said, “I was thinking that we had to do good because there are a lot of good teams there and we knew that Buhler was full of a lot of really good runners and so was Clay Center.” The boys had 7 runners that competed in the regional race: Bixler-Large(12), Mason Seiter (10), Zach Trotter (11), Colton Ohlde (10), Buddy Lambert (11), Logan Patrick (11), and Cade Smith (11). The team also had three other boys there as a part of the team: Jake Wellington (11), Trent Klausmeyer (12), and Jacob Walter (11). The team finished as regional runner-ups and they qualified as a team to go to state. The state meet will take place in Wabunse on Saturday, November 2, 2019.
